WEST NYACK, N.Y. – Freshman Jared Coupe won the men's hammer throw title to lead the Queens College track & field team, as the Knights competed at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
The Knights finished sixth in the men's standings with 35 points, while finishing seventh in the women's standings with 44 points.
Coupe took the men's hammer throw title with a toss of 40.03 meters. He also added a third place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 37.29 meters, while placing sixth in the shot put with a mark of 11.31 meters. Yitzchak Rayman finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.08 meters, while finishing ninth in both the discus and shot put.
Olivia Smithwick led the Knights' women in the field with a second place finish in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 39.40 meters. Smithwick added 10th and 11th place finishes in the discus and shot put. Renee Lustin also had a strong showing in the hammer throw, placing fourth at 37.16 meters, while finishing 11th in the discus.
The Knights also posted a pair of runner-up finishes in the women's 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Damira Banks, Terrilyn Britton, Diana Cruz and Ronsheica Trotman ran the 4x100 in 49.04, while the quartet put up a time of 4:13.25 in the 4x400.
Banks added a pair of top-five finishes for Queens, finishing third in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.24 and fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4.92 meters. Trotman registered a fourth place showing in the 400-meter race, running in 59 seconds flat. Britton placed fifth in the 100-meter dash at 12.76, while finishing 10th with a time of 26.81 in the 200 meters. Meanwhile, Cruz added a sixth place finish with a mark of 2:27.04 in the 800-meter run.
Jacob Lascano placed seventh in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:05.66 to lead the Queens men on the track. The Knights' 4x100 relay team of Brian Belfont, Skandal Delince, Jayqwan Fowler and Romaine Ewan finished fourth in the event at 46.85. Delince placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.38 meters, while finishing sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 12.19 meters.
Next up, the Knights will head to the Lions' Invitational in Ewing, N.J., on Saturday, April 29.
