Men's Tennis Rolls to 8-1 Win Over East Coast Conference Foe Saint Thomas Aquinas

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Apr. 4, 2018) - Sweeping all six singles matches in convincing fashion, the Queens College men's tennis team improved to a perfect 4-0 record with an 8-1 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday (Apr. 4) in Washington Township, N.J.

Queens (14-4, 4-0 ECC) went 2-1 in doubles against STAC (10-4, 2-1 ECC) with wins coming in the top two tandems for the Knights. Roman Laga and Gabriel Mendez were 8-5 victors at No. 1 doubles against Luke Taplin and Jacob Ljungberg while Cosme Jubera and Richard Sec claimed an 8-3 win at the second tandem over Aaron Stahl and Paul Voigt.

The Knights then won all six singles flights with Mendez needing three sets to dispatch of Stahl (6-3, 3-6, 10-2) at the top pairing. All other five matches required just two sets for QC to earn 'W's in. Jubera went 6-1, 6-1 at second-singles over Ljungberg and Laga knocked off Andreu Ferragut by a 7-5, 6-4 score at third-singles. Sec won at No. 4 singles over Voigt (6-4, 6-1) while Hugo Evangelista was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at the fifth flight against Enej Hasicevic. At sixth singles, Jose Zurro defeated Taplin by a 6-2, 6-1 margin.

Queens will next host Post University at 12 p.m. on Tuesday (Apr. 10).
