CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Senior Sharvill Nawghre of the Queens College men's tennis team was selected as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Knights to a 3-0 week at the top of the lineup in singles and doubles. It is Nawghre's second weekly honor of the season, earning the accolade back on March 6.
Perfect on the week, Nawghre posted a combined record of 5-0 at top singles and doubles, as Queens rolled to a 3-0 week to capture the ECC Regular Season Championship with a 5-0 conference mark. He went 3-0 at No. 1 singles, while teaming with Roman Laga for two wins at No. 1 doubles.
Nawghre started the week off with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles in an 8-1 victory over regionally-ranked Post University. He was also a double winner in each of the Knights' ECC victories over Daemen College and Roberts Wesleyan College over the weekend.
Nawghre tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win at top singles in a 9-0 sweep of Daemen on Friday, while teaming with Laga for an 8-4 win at top doubles. He followed suit on Saturday in an 8-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and another 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles alongside Laga.
The Knights will be the top seed and host of the upcoming ECC Championship this weekend. Queens will take on St. Thomas Aquinas College in the semifinals on Friday, April 21, at 11 a.m.
