FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team capped its regular season home schedule unbeaten, as the Knights defeated the Post University Eagles, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon. It was the sixth win for Queens in its last seven matches.
The Knights, ranked 47th in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings and first in the NCAA East Regional Rankings, captured another victory over a regionally ranked opponent in Post, which is fifth in the NCAA East Regional Rankings. With the win, Queens (10-5) moved to 7-0 at home and 7-0 in the region.
Queens took two of the three doubles matches, with the wins coming at first and third doubles. Jui Mao and Cosme Jubera teamed up for an 8-3 win at top flight doubles to start things off before Miguel Bendito and Camilo Arias earned an 8-4 win at No. 3. Post won at second doubles, as the Knights held a 2-1 lead going into singles.
Sharvill Nawghre picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, improving to 5-1 at the top spot this spring. Gabriel Mendez then added a 6-4, 6-2 win in the second spot, and Lucas Martinez rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win in the third position. Richard Sec won his sixth straight match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. Bendito held on for a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 win at No. 5, while Arias took a 6-1, 6-2 win in the sixth spot.
Queens will conclude the regular season with two East Coast Conference road matches. Next up will be a trip to Daemen College on Friday, April 14, for a 5 p.m. match.
