MADISON, N.J. – Jordan Melidor-Fuxis broke his own school record in the men's 100-yard backstroke, and Anna Lee captured a pair of victories to lead the women's team to a second place showing, as the Queens College swimming teams concluded the Ranger Invitational over the weekend.
The women's team racked up 220 points to take second place, while the men's squad was fourth with 39 points.
Melidor-Fuxis clipped his previous 100-yard backstroke mark of 54.30 that he set back in 2016, placing second in the event with a record time of 54.08. He also added a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, topping the field at 47.79, while Nihaal Shameem was eighth (57.97) among 18 entrants.
Lee, the reigning CollegeSwimming Division II National Swimmer of the Week, added to her resume with wins in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. She captured the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.36, while Chelsy Espinosa and Amanda Giordano were fourth and fifth, respectively. Lee also won the 200 breaststoke in 2:33.55, and both Espinosa and Giordano once again were fourth and fifth.
In total, Queens had four victories on the day, as the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Katie Waszkiewicz, Jennifer Chung, Jennifer Arana-Perez and Gabriela Almeida was victorious with a time of 3:49.12 in the event. The four also placed third with a time of 8:32.58 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Arana added a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.77) as well as a third place showing in the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.50). Chung finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.89, while Michaela Raphael (5th – 59.48) and Nicole Weinsheimer (8th – 1:01.72) were also in the top 10 among 27 entrants.
It was the final outing of 2017 for the Knights, who will hit the pool next on Jan. 21, when they take on St. Francis (N.Y.) and Saint Peter's.
