INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore diver Moustafa Ibrahim of the Queens College men's swimming and diving team has been invited to compete at the 2017 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, as the NCAA diving preliminary qualification list was released last week.
The championship will be held in Birmingham, Ala., as part of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships Festival. Ibrahim, one of just 25 men's divers to be invited, will take part in the pre-qualifying event. Championship action will begin on March 7 and run through March 11.
"Moustafa has been a high-achieving athlete at Queens College," said Queens diving coach Daniel Guerrero. "To have him go to nationals means a lot, not only to Queens College or his coaches, but for him the most. He'll be able to carry that experience with him wherever he decides to go after his collegiate diving years. Regardless of the outcome, I'm sure he'll make Queens College proud."
When asked about his approach, Ibrahim passionately explained, "You will lose some. People will stand in your way. The odds will not be in your favor. These aren't reasons to quit, but rather three good reasons to want it even more and take what's rightfully yours."
At the Metropolitan Conference Championships last month, Ibrahim hit NCAA qualifying marks in both the one- and three-meter dives. He posted a score 475.15 in the one-meter dive and accumulated a total of 483.30 in the three-meter event.
