Knights' Relay Teams Make Waves on Day One of NYU Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Three relay wins led the Queens College men's and women's swimming and diving teams on Friday night, as they competed at the NYU Invitational at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

The Knights wrapped up the first night of the two-day competition against Division I programs Lehigh University and Drexel University, as well as the University of Bridgeport, Fashion Institute of Technology, LIU Post, Stevens Institute of Technology, and SUNY Delhi.

The men's team posted a pair of victories in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay. Jordan Melidor-Fuxis, Joseph Mo, Louis Alers and Mateusz Stypulkowski led the Knights to a first place finish out of four teams in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.66. That quartet also came away victorious in the 400-yard medley relay with a mark of 3:40.58. Melidor-Fuxis also notably finished the 100-yard freestyle in 48.78 to place fifth out of 15 finishers.

Queens notched a victory in the women's 400-yard medley relay as well, as Jennifer Arana-Perez, Chelsy Espinosa, Amanda Giordano and Elizabeth Hodges finished in 4:28.02. The women's team had five competitors in the 100-yard freestyle with Arana-Perez leading the way at 57.72 to place third among 13 entrants, while Katie Waszkiewicz and Anna Lee finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

The Knights will return to the pool at 10 a.m. tomorrow for the final day of the NYU Invitational.
