Further Information About Movember
FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men’s swimming and diving program is doing its part to raise cancer awareness as part of Men’s Health Month, as the Knights are participating in the “Movember” initiative – growing moustaches and raising funds for the cause in the process.
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the United States and around the world. With their “Mo’s,” these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health – specifically, prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.
At the swimming and diving home meet on Nov. 30 against Maritime (N.Y.) College (5 p.m. start), not only will the Knights shave their moustaches and culminate their fundraising efforts, there will also be a best moustache contest in the crowd.
Raising awareness for this cause is important to first-year head coach Jeremy Cuebas’s team and beyond, as one in six American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Once the Queens student-athletes registered, the men started “Movember” 1 clean shaven. For the rest of the month, the gentlemen – known as “Mo Bros,” – groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Also, “Mo Sistas,” are women who support the gentlemen throughout the initiative. Collectively, both groups raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their efforts.
