BOYDS, MD - The Queens College men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over UDC Wednesday afternoon in East Coast Conference action. With the win, the Knights improved to 5-5-4 overall on the year, with a 2-2-2 mark in ECC play. The Firebirds fall to 3-10-1 overall, and 3-3-1 in league matches.
Senior Nikolas Maher got the Knights on the board in the 27th minute. Off a cross by freshman Emgi Gousse, Maher put the chance in front away for his second goal of the season. In the opening 45 minutes, UDC outshot the Knights 6-3, forcing three saves out of QC netminder James Brostowski.
In the second half, the Knights looked to extend their advantage. After six shot, QC got its second goal. In the 79th minute, Gousse was slide-tackled in the box, resulting in a red card for UDC and a penalty kick. Senior Nicholas Matusewicz converted on the attempt for his second tally of the season, and more importantly a two-goal advantage.
Brostowski made four more saves in the second half to preserve the clean sheet. His UDC counterpart, Joao Brusamolin, made four saves in net.
