Men's Basketball Suffers First League Setback At NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Despite playing a career-low 23 minutes due to early foul trouble in the first half, senior Tyree White scored 20 points to pace the Queens College men's basketball team in an 83-80 loss to NYIT. QC dropped its first East Coast Conference game of the season as the Knights moved to 4-4 overall, 2-1 ECC, while the Bears improved to 2-4 overall, 1-1 ECC.

Both teams were tangled in a back and forth contest as both sides faced foul trouble all throughout the game.  In the first half, senior Malcolm Moore paced the Knights with 10 points and six rebounds. Junior Tyrone Hall scored nine points as QC took a two-point lead into the half, 34-32.

White took over in the second half, scoring the Knights' first five points as QC extended their lead to five, 39-34, 51 seconds into the second half. QC went on a dry spell as the Knights failed to find any offense from 19:09 to 15:32 while NYIT fought back to cut the deficit down to one, 41-40, with 15:32 remaining. White scored the next six points as QC trailed by three before a Jeffrey Hayden layup extended the lead back to three to force a QC timeout.

Using an 8-0 run, the Bears extended their lead to 62-54 with 8:18 left to play in the second half. Hall's three-pointer stopped the bleeding to cut the deficit down to five as QC continued to fight back. After senior Marquis Roberts three-pointer had knotted the game at 75 with 1:34 remaining, the Bears went on a 4-0 run to put away the game.

QC shot 41.2% from the field, while NYIT shot 46.0%. The Knights were outrebounded 49-37. The Knights were led by White's game-high 20 points and eight rebounds, while Hall scored 15 points off the bench. Senior Diego Maldonado and Roberts each registered 13 points.

The Bears were led Jon Feiler who posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. While Hayden registered 17 points and 11 rebounds.
