Hall Leads Men's Hoops In Win Over Mercy

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Led by junior Tyrone Hall's career-high 28 points, the Queens College men's basketball bested Mercy College in East Coast Conference action 93-73 Wednesday evening. With the win, the Knights improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in conference action, while the Mavericks moved to 1-7 overall, 0-1 in ECC play.

The first 12 minutes of play was a tug of war between both teams as each exchanged buckets. Led by a fast break from Hall to knot the game at 20-20 with 8:50 left to play in the first half, Mercy was forced to take a timeout.

QC went on a 9-5 run to take a 29-25 lead before Hall caught on fire out of a Knights timeout. Hall scored the next nine points as QC took a 38-29 lead with 2:56 left to play forcing another Mavericks timeout. Behind Hall's perfect shooting in the first half with 16 points 6-6 FG, 3-3 from long range, QC went into the half with an 42-33 lead. 

Senior Tyree White took over in the second half scoring the eight points as QC extended the lead to 11 (51-40) with 17:05 remaining in the second half. The Mavericks refused to go away led by Jefferson Francois who scored six points in a row to cut the lead down to single digits with 11:55 remaining. William Robinson jumper tied the game at 61 with 8:49 left to play. Hall refused to let their hard work go to waste as he launched another barrage of shooting to extend the lead back to eight (71-63) in a 10-2 run. The Knights never looked back as QC went on to take their second conference win in as many games with a 93-73 win. In three of four wins on the season, the Knights have posted 93 points. 

QC shot 52.4% from the field while holding Mercy to 37.5%. Four Knights scored in double-digits led by Hall who scored 28 points shooting 10-15 from the field, 5-10 from long range. White continued his impressive season with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Senior Diego Maldonado scored 13 points with 3-4 from long distance, while classmate Kyheim Chaplin scored 11 points off the bench. 

The Mavericks were paced by Francois who posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Robinson notched 14 points and five rebounds, while teammate Ryan Hickey scored 12 points. Off the bench, Isaiah Cosbert posted 10 points (4-8 FG).

The Knights continue conference action on Saturday, Dec. 3 as QC travels to Old Westbury, N.Y. to play the Bears of NYIT (1-4 overall, 0-1 ECC) with tipoff slated for 3:00 pm.
