MADISON, N.J. – The Queens College women's fencing team took part in its final competition of 2017 on Sunday, the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) Christmas Invitational at Drew University.

Junior Sabrina Decopain led the way for the Knights with a strong fifth place showing in the foil out of 35 competitors. Classmate Nicole Michaels wasn't far behind either, placing eighth in the foil as well.

Queens also had three fencers competing in the epee. Graduate student Anastasiia Kriukova led the way in the event by coming in ninth among 29 entrants, while junior Fatima Maryam was 23rd and senior Nina Lopez-Ortiz was 25th.

Meanwhile, freshman Sophia Lettieri made some noise in the sabre, as she finished in eighth place out of 34 fencers. Leslie Irlanda also competed in the sabre, placing 24th.

The Knights will have some time off now, as their next scheduled competition is a dual at Wagner on Feb. 10.
