MADISON, N.J. – The Queens College fencing team returned to action on Sunday, taking part in the Drew Invitational held at Drew University. Queens competed against Johns Hopkins University and Haverford College.
Johns Hopkins 22, Queens 5
The Blue Jays took control with a 9-0 win in the sabre before winning 7-2 in the foil and 6-3 in the epee. Sabrina Decopain kept the Knights alive with a pair of quick victories in the foil, tying the score at 2-2 before Johns Hopkins took the next five decisions to take the 7-2 win. In the epee, Fatima Maryam tied the score at 1-1 with a victory before Angela Acevedo added a pair of wins, but the Blue Jays took the win, 6-3.
Haverford 19, Queens 8
Haverford took a 19-8 victory over the Knights in Round 3. The Fords took the sabre (7-2), foil (7-2) and epee (5-4). Irlanda and Mendoza earned the wins in the sabre, and Decopain won twice for the Knights in the foil. Acevedo and Maryam gave Queens a 2-0 lead in the epee, but despite two more wins by Acevedo, Haverford took the 5-4 win.
