FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2018) - The Queens College baseball team dropped two contentious contests to Bridgeport on Saturday (Apr. 28), falling in ECC play to the Purple Knights by scores of 6-3 and 4-2.
In the first game, Bridgeport (10-30, 7-11 ECC) jumped on QC (12-24, 2-16 ECC) starter Michael Lamneck for two runs as Daren Grabowski led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run. An RBI single by Ben Torres doubled UB's lead and the game remained a 2-0 contest until the fifth inning. The Purple Knights tacked on a three-spot in the frame with an infield single, dropped third strike and sacrifice fly bringing home all the runs to give Bridgeport a 5-0 edge. In the sixth, Queens came back with two runs as Matthew Stepnoski reached on an error that scored Ron Linsalato; Stepnoski later scored on an RBI single from Sam Siegel. Bridgeport tacked on a run in the sixth as well and Queens scored one more run in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.
The second game was a low-scoring affair as Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead after an inning of play on an RBI groundout from Logan Allen. Louis Antos brought home Kevin Kolesar with a run-scoring grounder in the third inning to tie the score at one-all, but UB collected a run in the third and two in the fourth to edge in front by a 4-1 margin. The Queens bats were held silent save for a single by Andrew Navarez that was combined with an error to bring home QC's final run of the contest.
The Knights and Purple Knights will duel at Hennekens Stadium on Sunday (Apr. 29) with a special start time of 10 a.m. Senior Day festivities will take place before the contest as Queens honors its ten senior baseball student-athletes.
