FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 8, 2018) - The Queens College baseball team was caught in an early hole on Sunday (Apr. 8) and ended up being swept by LIU Post, losing the series finale by an 11-1 score to the Pioneers at Hennekens Stadium.
Queens (9-17, 1-10 ECC) starter Brandon Hoskins got the first two outs of the opening frame before LIU Post (19-11, 10-2 ECC) scored three runs on the strength of three hits, three batters being hit by a pitch and a wild pitch before Hoskins retired the ninth batter of the inning. The Knights got one run back in the bottom of the first thanks to a rocket of an RBI double off the bat of designated hitter Karl Klesin. However, the Pioneers' offense was just getting started while the Knights' offensive was ultimately quieted for the remainder of the day. The Pioneers tacked on two runs in the third inning and then four in the fourth before scoring two more in the eighth to close the deal and complete the four-game sweep.
Brian Shannon was the lone Knights with two hits as, five other players recorded a base-knock for Queens in the losing effort. Dylan Sabia, Thomas Kelly and Thomas Zaki each threw a scoreless inning of relief with Zaki fanning two Pioneers in the ninth inning.
Queens will face Molloy on Wednesday (Apr. 11) in a 3:30 p.m. make-up contest in Rockville Centre as the Knights and Lions hope to finally complete their four-game series that was halted by inclement weather.
