Queens College inducted eight members of the Class of 2017 into its Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 13, at Harbor Links Golf Club in Port Washington, N.Y. QC's sixth class includes eight members, with five outstanding individuals and three teams of distinction, including former Queens College athletes, coaches, and championship teams.
The Class of 2017 features Alan Landes, Frank Saracino, Cheryl Vigo, Howard M. Elson and Nicole Young, along with the Knights' 1967 baseball team, 1980 softball team and 2007 women's tennis team.
Our second Team of Distinction Hall of Fame Spotlight is the 1967 Baseball Team.
In 1967, the Queens College baseball team won its first-ever Knickerbocker Conference Championship. Under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach Robert J. Tierney, the Knights went 13-4 overall that season, winning the Knickerbocker title with an 8-0 mark in conference play.
Fellow Hall of Fame inductee Howard Elson led the squad on the mound, earning Knickerbocker Pitcher of the Year after going 6-2 with a 1.57 ERA and 64 strikeouts.
