BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Queens College baseball team's road struggles continued on Monday, as the Knights fell at LIU Post, 10-2, in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. With the win, the ECC-leading Pioneers take the season series, four games to one.
Queens drops to 11-16 overall, 5-10 in the ECC and 4-9 on the road, while LIU Post improved to 17-14 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
After two scoreless innings, the Pioneers tallied two runs in the third inning on a Thomas Asbaty home run and RBI triple by Kenny Daley, before adding two more in the fourth inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. LIU Post then tallied a pair of runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a commanding 8-0 advantage.
The Knights finally got on the board in the top of the eighth, as junior Karl Klesin and sophomore Andrew Navarez hit back-to-back two-out singles. Klesin then scored on a throwing error to register the first Queens run. Fellow junior Paulino Harrington followed that up with an RBI single to left in the next at-bat, scoring Navarez and cutting the deficit to six at 8-2.
LIU Post answered in the bottom of the eighth with two more runs, leading to the 10-2 final. Noah Lorenzo (5-1) earned the win for the Pioneers, while freshman Nick Morena (3-5) took the loss. Senior Joe Morris went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead Queens, and Klesin went 1-for-1 with a run.
Queens will have three days off before playing four in a row against ECC opponent Mercy College. The two teams will meet at Mercy on Friday, April 21, at 3 p.m.
