CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Senior right-hander Joseph Broderick of the Queens College baseball team was honored as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Pitcher of the Week on Monday after his impressive performance on the mound in the Knights' 5-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.
Broderick anchored the Knights to victory over the ECC-leading Spartans in game one of a four-game series over the weekend. He tossed eight scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out eight. Broderick, who moved to 3-2 on the season with the win, had a no-hitter going through his first 5.1 innings of work.
The Knights' ace has a 3.18 ERA through five starts on the year. Broderick has accumulated 48 strikeouts over 34 innings of action, averaging a career-high 12.71 strikeouts per nine innings this season thus far. Over his last three starts, the senior has posted a 1.17 ERA with 32 strikeouts.
Broderick becomes the second Knight to earn ECC Pitcher of the Week so far this season, with freshman Nick Morena picking up the honor on March 6.
Queens is scheduled for five ECC games this week, leading off with LIU Post on Tuesday, April 4, before beginning a four-game series with Molloy on Friday, April 7.
