PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Queens College baseball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday, as Philadelphia University put forth a powerful offensive effort to take a 21-1 non-conference victory on its home field.
The Rams posted 22 hits, compared to six hits for the Knights.
Philadelphia didn't waste any time getting runs on the board, bringing eight across the plate in the bottom of the first to set the tone. The Rams then added to their total with three more runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 11-0 lead.
Sophomore Joel Mendez got the Knights on the board with their only run of the game in the top of the fifth. Mendez struck a two-out double to center field that brought in senior Joe Morris to make it 11-1.
The Rams immediately fired back with five more runs in the bottom of the inning. Philadelphia would add single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before tallying three more in the eighth inning to reach the 21-1 final.
Queens (5-4) will look to avenge the loss at home on Monday, March 13, when the Knights continue their three-game series with the Rams with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
