FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 29, 2018) - The 2018-19 Queens College basketball season officially kicked off on Oct. 18 with the annual MidKnight Madness event in conjunction with the Queens College Department of Athletics and the QC Student Association.
Fitzgerald Gymnasium was full of fans and basketball lovers alike as the night celebrated not only the Knights on the hardwood, but also all of the teams that were in attendance. The new-look QC dance team thrilled those in attendance to open the night, as students and family and friends all trickled into the gym for the fun and festivities. Every varsity athletics program was represented on the evening, with many student-athletes holding signs designating their sports in the crowd.
The night was an event with a great deal of fun and entertainment which included: a photo booth to commemorate the event; a munchkin-eating contest to celebrate the 39th anniversary of the Dunkin' Donuts location on Kissena Boulevard and Horace Harding Expressway; an all-sports obstacle course challenge; a raffle for a Google home and a half-court shot contest for a 50-inch flat-screen television.
In between the fun for the fans, the lights at the gymnasium dimmed as the players and coaches from the men's and women's basketball teams took the literal spotlight and the stage. Both teams held scrimmages, after which the women's team competed against the staff in a three-point shoot-out contest. The current Knights bested the staff, but not before a switch was made in the staff (to the surprise of everyone) to have QC's assistant basketball coaches attempt to beat the current Knights' score. Afterwards, the teams competed in a "Shooting Stars" competition and the night culminated with the men's team taking part in a slam dunk contest.
