FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2018) – The Queens College Department of Athletics celebrated a successful day on Monday (Oct. 22) with the annual Queens College Golf Classic taking place at Glen Head Country Club on the North Shore of Long Island.
The day kicked off with a brunch hour and sign-in for the 65 golfers who made it out to the exquisite links in spite of the chilly morning, with shotgun start set for 11:30 a.m. As the groups navigated the course, they were met by members of the Queens College athletics staff who were overseeing several prize holes including the two closest to the pin challenges and the longest drive hole on the course. Additionally, players had the opportunity to shoot for ten thousand dollars in cash on the par-3 fourth hole.
The night concluded with a cocktail reception and dinner, while Interim Director of Athletics Rob Twible oversaw the prize raffles which included a basketball signed by New York Knicks great Willis Reed, golf-themed giveaways including a brand-new Titleist golf bag donated by the Glen Head Country Club Pro Shop, a one-night stay at the brand-new Courtyard Marriott Fresh Meadows, a 50-inch flat-screen television and tickets to the Kupferberg Center's Nutcracker and Dance Theater Harlem shows among other prizes.
Awards were also handed out for the groups that shot the lowest and second-lowest scores of the tournament, with the winning score being 13-under par.
Dignitaries at the event included Queens College President Felix Matos Rodriguez and Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Adam Rockman along with New York Community Bank (NYCB) Chief Operating Officer and Senior Executive Vice President Robert Wann, who received a commemorative gift in honor of his continued support for the golf outing.
