Going Dancing! Men's and Women's Tennis Both Earn Spots in 2018 NCAA Division II Tennis Tournaments

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 25, 2018) - The Queens College men's and women's tennis teams learned their fates on Tuesday evening (Apr. 24) and got two doses of good news from the NCAA as the Knights are in and hosting regional-round games of the 2018 NCAA Division II Tennis Championships.

The culmination of a great season for both teams, the Knights were awarded the No. 2 overall seed in the East Region in both tournaments meaning that the road to the East Region Championship will---at least, partly---run through Flushing.

Women's Tennis

Following a fall season in which the squad became the runners-up in the East Coast Conference Tournament, the Queens College women's tennis team will enter its 18th straight NCAA Tournament as the second-seed in the East Region behind No. 1 Goldey-Beacom. The Knights were 10-4 on the year and 7-0 in ECC regular-season play, falling in a 5-4 classic final to NYIT to conclude the fall campaign. Reehan Rashad---an ITA East Region quarterfinalist earlier this year---was one of four players on the Knights to earn All-ECC accolades in the fall season.

Queens will play host to games in East Region II on Saturday (Apr. 28) and Sunday (Apr. 29) at the QC Tennis Center. The Knights will be the casual observers on Saturday as third-seed NYIT plays sixth-seeded Stonehill at noon. The winner of the Bears-Skyhawks battle will face Queens on Sunday, also at noon. The winner of the sub-region will go on to face whichever team---of top-seed Goldey-Beacom, No. 4 Concordia (NY) or No. 5 Adelphi---advances out of the other sub-region in the East.

Schedule:

Saturday, Apr. 28

No. 3 NYIT vs. No. 6 Stonehill - 12 p.m.

Sunday, Apr. 29

No. 2 Queens vs. NYIT/Stonehill - 12 p.m.

Men's Tennis

The two-time defending East Coast Conference champion Queens College men's tennis team received the second-seed in the East Region behind top-seeded Concordia (NY). Queens went 19-5 and 4-1 in ECC play, falling to NYIT in the team's regular-season conference finale before shutting out District of Columbia and the Bears to win the ECC crown on its home court.  Head Coach Somadi Druker was named ECC Coach of the Year for a fourth consecutive season while Hugo Andrade earned ECC Rookie of the Year accolades as four players collected spots on the all-conference squads.

Queens will host the East Region II section of the bracket on Monday (Apr. 30) and Tuesday (May 1) at the QC Tennis Center, as well. Familiar foe NYIT was the third-seed in the region and will play sixth-seeded Le Moyne on Monday at 1 p.m., with the Knights facing the winner of that match on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Concordia (NY) will host the other region which includes fourth-seed Southern New Hampshire and No. 5 seed Merrimack.

Tuesday, May 1
